A: Pours a hazy gold with a creamy, lingering white mousse.

S: The expected aromas of banana, bubblegum, clove, buttered wheat toast, and heavy cream are evident on the first sniff, but are soon followed by subtle scents of vanilla bean, apple, pear, lemon, and peach.

T: Very vibrant in the mouth with notes of lemon, orange, pear, apple, peach, banana, bubblegum, heavy cream, clove, buttered wheat toast, vanilla bean, and minerals. The finish is dry and quenching with a nice balance of bubblegum, citrus, and banana flavors.

M: Light-to-medium in body and relatively dry. Carbonation is very active. This is a very drinkable ale that is perfect for a warm day.

O: This is a very solid and interesting hefeweizen. My only complaint is that there was a little too much bubblegum and banana for my liking, rendering the beer a little too sweet. It would have been better for me if these notes were layered in with the other decidedly non-traditional weissbier flavors that this beer displays so well. Still, as is, Heifer-Weizen is a respectable American interpretation of a Bavarian hefeweizen and is worth seeking out on hot, sunny days.

 

Zesty, refreshing and just in time for warmer spring days comes this fruit-forward and mildly acidic Hefeweizen to quench the thirst and satisfy the palate.

Heifer-Weizen pours with a cloudy lemon-yellow pour. Building a substantial cottony head, the beer retains much of its sturdy structure and lace well into the sesson.

Juicy aromas of apples, lemons, banana and apricots leap into the olfactories with the zestiness of slightly under rippened fruit for a light tartness and acidity that promises to cut through the thirst. Spicy and bready in support, the beer's attention is given to the clean fruit scent.

And much of that is delivered in taste as the bright and zesty fruit flavors gain a pep in flavor from the spicy balance of bready wheat, mild clove, and white pepper. Still the sharp tang of under rippened berries, lemons, green apples, banana, and apricot garner control of the balance and complement the herbal hop bitterness and lemongrass flavor in finish.

Light and vibrant textures are aided by the airy carbonation and acidic bite and give a higher sense of refreshment. The body lightens considerably as the carbonation disipates and allows for a clean finish of fruit and yeast.

Pours a hazy deep golden color with an apricot hue and a solid, dense one finger white head that dissipates somewhat quickly into a thin ring around the rim.

Aroma is heavily wheaty, grass, coriander, and tangerine, with hints of clove and banana shining through.

Flavor is initially crisp, highly citrusy, lemon, peach, and orange riding a strong wheat backbone, and accentuated by coriander and a slightly spicy clove at the finish. There's a note of banana in the background, adding complexity. Bready malt surfaces as it warms. There's a bit if residual sweetness evident.

Body is moderate to heavy, with a moderate level of carbonation.

Overall, there was far more citrus in the flavor than anticipated. Out exhibits the standard flavors associated with the style, but with a nod to the extreme. The finish is a bit sweet, and the body is slightly heavy, but still very intriguing. A little less malt, and you've got a great hefe.
