Pours thick inky black into a tulip glass from a bottle. Tan head is one finger, close and lingering. Creamy lacing left behind.
Aroma is burnt chocolate, ash, woodsmoke, roasted coffee and some mild booziness.
The flavour is actually quite tangy and harsh which was unexpected. There's a little dark fruit sourness and a ton of piney hops that comes through first. Burnt orange, floral grass, chocolate malts, cocoa powder. After this initial flavour comes the roastiness in the form of burnt chocolate and roasted coffee beans. It's a kind of black IPA or hoppy stout.
Feel is moderate-full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Oily start with a dry finish.
This is leaning more towards a black IPA for me rather than a stout; it's a little too carbonated and tangy for my tastes, but still good.

From a 330ml bottle.
L: Rich, glossy, black. Absolutely no edging even with a back light. One finger of dark brown, creamy head recedes to a patchy cap. Looks fabulous in a tulip glass.
S: Liquorice, coffee, cocoa & alcohol.
T: Chocolate liqueur, raisins, coffee.
F: Luscious, rich mouthfeel. Coats the mouth. Dry, boozy, prickly finish.
O: This is a fantastic, strong stout. Lots of dark fruit as well as the expected coffee and chocolate. Alcohol to the fore. Great winter sipper.
