A zesty golden ale brewed using whole lemons and generous quantities of American hops. Subtly flavoured to be softly refreshing. At its best on its own, lightly chilled.

Rerate, cask pint at The Beehive (JDW landside, South terminal, Gatwick Airport). ABV 4.5%. Golden colour, white head. Pleasant aroma and flavour of citrus / lemons, but not too sour. Decent hops, well balanced. Refreshing. I'm upping the score several points.

Original rating: Cask 1/3 pint, gravity dispense, at the 16th Twickenham Beer & Cider Festival. Pale golden colour, small white head. Moderate aroma of lemons. Lemony flavour all right, but not much more than that. Thin body.

Pours clear, caution light yellow with one third inch head. Taste is fresh lemon juice, lemon rind and pale malt. Slightly bitter, light bodied with moderate carbonation. Big bright lemon goodness. I will get this again.

From a 500ml bottle.
L: Clear, pale straw. Soapy, white head reduces quickly to a ring and some spotty lacing. A few stray bubbles.
S: Light citrus, clean.
T: Sweet, pale malt with the fresh zip of lemon zest. More citric acid from the added lemons than hop bitterness. Refreshing enough nonetheless.
F: Low carbonation. Smooth & mellow. Body is light but the finish has some oiliness that lasts.
O: Whole lemons & citrusy American hops layered over a gentle pale barley & wheat malt base make for a light, summery, golden ale. Refreshing. Super easy to drink. Best served cold... on a summer afternoon. Just wish it was a little more punchy.

Pale straw. Slight head. Looks a bit flat.
Lemon it is to the nose.
Lemon again but of a chemical rather than fruity form. Hops.
Little carbonation and thin.

Another citrusy flavoured beer from Salopian: surely not!

One and a half pints: hand-pulled in a local pub on 12 April 2012.

Pours a clear and clean golden colour (almost lager like). The head starts thin and gets thinner very quickly, a pity.

The smell is all citrus fruit, lemon being the one my nose found first, second and third.

The taste is also very hop citrusy bitter with very little malt presence to be found.

Medium bodied and refreshing, not really my bag, which is why I had an extra half to get a balanced feel for this write-up.

Pint at the market porter, served in a pint glass. Had a haze which rose to the top leaving a clear beer, similar colour to apple juice, one finger head which it retained well. Smelled the Golding and Saaz hops, there were also notes of mango. Tasted fruity with a bitter aftertaste. Mouthfull was so smooth texture was more like fruit juice. Really enjoyed this pint, great beer for summer.

Tasted by half-pint at the Lord Moon of the Mall, a JDW pub nr. Trafalgar Sq., London. The beer is a guest ale in JDW's seasonal list, and the leaflet describes this beer as: "A white wheat beer, served clear in the British fashion, this ale uses fresh lemons to give that citrus and refreshing character". The hops used are Goldings, Saaz, Cascade.

A: slightly unclear, pale amber, coming with a thin white beer head dissipating fast; .
S: grassy, dusty, lemon-ish hops abound... like Goldings+Saaz indeed. Very light and too understated overall, which I suspect is due to the freshness issue here.
T: the mixed flavour profile comes without a clear structure, but quite interesting: pale malts, citric-zesty hops, smoothly-textured, sour-sweet peary fruitiness, and semi-dryish hoppyness plus a bitter-sweet edge of lemon-grass firmly at the back.
M&D: soft mouthfeel and quite smooth, medium-flavoured, rather balanced. I suppose it could show richer flavours if it was served cooler and fresher. I can't identify much wheat/malted wheat elements in the beer which make it a wheat beer, but look forward to trying it in a better condition next time.
