440ml can.
L: Light haze, dull copper colour with a thin head and spotty lacing.
S: Nothing.
T: Some malt, some black tea, some citrus. A bit of a mish-mash. Not great.
F: Medium body, smooth mouthfeel, not-quite-dry finish.
O: How does an ale brewed with Citra hops have zero aroma? Not getting much, if any, citrus, pine or tropical fruit. What is this? Not bitter enough to be an English Bitter, not strident enough to be an English IPA, definitely not an American IPA. Unfortunately, Salopian’s ‘Black’ range of beers continues to underwhelm.

500ml bottle. Pours gold, clear, minimal head. smell: spicy fruit. taste: medium sweetness and bitterness. Spicy fruit, almost perfumed. mouthfeel: quite light, with lingering taste from the hops. overall: a well-crafted pale ale. Will have wide appeal.

15th August 2012: hand-pulled pint in ‘The White Hart’, Shifnal.
Regular tasting and smelling citrus blond: typical of almost every UK summer brew. Clear golden body with a white head, pine, floral, citrusy nose and taste. The alcohol comes through the fairly thin body and adds a pleasant dimension to the flavours but otherwise it’s like all the rest.
