10th Review, 1st from brewer.
WFM 07701 is sourcing more local & NJ craft, this one was welcome surprise.
a) Half the glass is over-carbed head, but it leaves a thick lace like cake batter. Sudsy.
s) Chocolatey, woody, and roast, some fruit cake with nuts, toffee icing, and caramel.
t) Flavor follows the aroma. The wood tempers the sweet. This beer will black and tan well.
f) Drying Finish, mid weight. Never cloying, good winter brew.
o) Recommended this winter and for black and tans.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color porter with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt is pretty intense with light roasted malt. Taste is sweeter then I was expecting with loads of chocolate malt and light roasted malt notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Not bad overall with more focus on chocolate malt then I was expecting.

Dark brown in color with a fingernail of beige that is barely present. The aroma is of dark chocolate, caramel, and toffee. I'm tasting dark chocolate, toffee, and sweet lactose. There's a light chewiness and the mouth is otherwise smooth.

From the bottle, it pours a nice brown with a modest head, soon reducing to a ring and an occasional island. Nose is roasted malt. Taste is the same. Easy to drink.

Tuckahoe Brewing Co. "Steelmantown Porter"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle without any packaging or freshness dating
$1.83 @ (Wegmans) Cherry Hill Wine, Liquor & Beer, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: Roughly poured I brought up a massive head that had to settle. I've got the second half in but there's still almost two fingers worth of frothy tan slowly settling. Opaque deep mahogany brown/black body. The aroma is chocolatey and roasty, but soft rather than harsh, and there's a bit of nuttiness and fruitiness to it as well. Clean and welcoming. The initial lacing is pretty nice, and now I've got a solid creamy cap of about an eighth of an inch. As expected, the flavor follows the aroma. The nuttiness is there, and it's toffee-like as well... lightly chocolatey, fruity, and lightly roasty in the finish. Like a candy bar. Is it sweet though? Not really, but there's some sweet caramel malt to it. And that reminds me, what I like about this brewery is that they focus on their malt. I'm sure they're using quality malts, I can taste it, and they know how to put them together. Anyone can throw hops at a beer, but the best brewers build from the malt up. Moving on... medium bodied with a fine-bubbled median carbonation (I probably softened it a bit with my rough pour, but it's nice as it is). Moderately bitter. It's there in the finish drying, but it's not harsh. 6.5% ABV, perfect - the alcohol is well cloaked. Looking back there's some very nice lacing left behind. Very nicely done.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smell is coffee, woody chocolate. Taste is chocolate and roasted notes. Not overly bitter like many porters. Feel is full and porter appropriate. Overall a solid porter that's good to drink.

Served from tap at brewery a dark brown color with some light getting through and a frothy tan head that took its time to settle. Aroma is very dark roast heavy with notes of bitter chocolate, molasses and a light smokiness that comes through in a pleasant amount. Taste is full of layers. There was dark chocolate, light nuttiness, char, dark cherries, and a dash of smoke to put a twist on a traditional porter. The smoke was very well balance with the other flavors and welcomed by me. Nice smooth carbonation and medium to full body. This beer gives a lot of flavors for malt lovers and yet is easy to drink because everything is in good balance. I could drink a few of these for sure!

I had this on draught at the brewery. It pours a dark cola color with reddish hues when held to the light, and creamy ecru-colored head and lacing. It smells of dark chocolate, coffee, and wood smoke. The taste features roasted malt, dark coffee, caramel, and chocolate. It's a classic-tasting porter. The mouthfeel is on the light side but at 6.2% ABV, it is very easy to drink. Overall, it is a well-crafted and very solid porter.

One pint of this is too much. Nice flavors but a little over the top.
