lots of fall/winter spices like cinnamon and licorice. Reminds me of Christmas beers but not as sweet or heavy. Goes great with stewed spicy food.

Dark caramel toffee amber, sharp clarity, lasting head of ecru foam.
Aroma of toasty malt, light sweetness, mild yeast presence.
Taste was mild, light toasty malt, lightly sweet and bready.
Light bodied and smooth, good carb level.

Pretty much a spot on clone of Sam Adams Boston Ale. Well executed.

Bottle at Massawa, New York, NY

A: The beer is crystal clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high beige head that died down, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of toasted malts and toffee are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of toffee along with notes of toasted malts, but the flavors seem to be more from malt extracts. There is a bit of sweetness.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied and yet a little thin on the palate with a moderate amount of of carbonation.
O: This beer has some nice aromas and flavors associated with it, but the only draw back is that it seems that malt extracts were used and this makes it feel a bit thinner compared to other beers in the style.

Bottle to glass, cold (unlike most East African brews I had in country). Very fine effervescence, minimal nose. Medium malt profile, light hop touch. No off flavors and reminiscent of the brews I had from neighboring countries long ago.

I had this beer on draft in Addis Abbada airport. It had a metallic ting to it. It could be the pouring and storing conditions... But I was not impressed. I am happy to try beer all around the world.

On tap into a pint glass

A - Beer arrives at the table with a head that is 1 finger in height and is white and frothy. Head dissipates rather quickly to an ultra thin lacing. The beer itself is a dark amber in color with a slight bright mahogany tint. Low carbonation with small bubbles rising moderately quickly towards the surface. 3.5/5

S - More aroma than its Lager brother from this brewery but still a tad subdued. Dark stone fruit with a bit of buttered wheat bread come out strongest in the aromas. There is a bit of peppery spiciness and noble hops too. Light undertones of molasses and brown sugar are present. 3/5

T - The flavor profile follows the aroma very closely. Dark stone fruit and a good strong caramel come out right away and lead into a toasted wheat bread note. Undertones of molasses and brown sugar are present but not strong. A bit peppery and grassy on the back end but really little to no bitterness that does not linger. 3.25/5

M - Creamy throughout the entire profile and lowly carbonation brings a slightly syrupy feel to this beer that coats the mouth. No drying. Medium bodied. 3.25/5

O - Considering that there is no real bitterness at all, this is a fairly unbalanced beer with a heavy lean towards sweet. What does bring this beer back into somewhat of a balance is the fact that the flavors are not incredibly strong and therefore the sweetness does not overpower the palate. Fairly easy drinking and pairs well with Ethiopian food which is spicy and full flavored by nature so something light flavored is nice for pairing purposes. 3/5

This beer is not named correctly here. Although the label does feature an image of St. George slaying a dragon, the name of the beer is just "Amber Beer." It is basically a Sam Adams wannabe, which it succeeds at. It's easily the best Ethiopian beer I've had, with much more body than the Euro Pale Lagers and American Adjunct Lagers that dominate this market.

Deep amber color with wheat colored head. Maybe a little too sweet but caramel flavors come through. Rich with a complimentary full mouth feel. Goes well with spicy food.

I didn't add this beer but it looks like I am the first to review it. Also, my first beer from Ethiopia, a double bonus. Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a copper/amber color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bready malts, some sweetness. Taste is of dark breads, syrupy, sweet, a very unusual after taste, a bit like plastic, not good at all. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall I was glad to try this beer, but I won't need another.

330mL bottle poured into a mug. The aroma is mellow and dry with a nutty caramel and light chocolate note. It pours a clear caramel hue with a sudsy white head that has moderate retention and a light lace. The taste is a Medium sweet and medium light bitter. It's slick with a foamy carbonation and a medium body containing muted flavors of caramel, nuts, and chocolate (like a turtle candy) with a finish that's smooth and syrupy caramel with a hint of spice and an aftertaste of caramel and bread crust.

Bottle 330 ml, imported to Switzerland, poured to a tulip.

Look: Red, deep colour. Foam medium thick, disappears rather quickly.

Smell: Fresh, a bit of caramel and some burning

Taste: Not too bitter, leaves an aftertaste

Feel: Hoppish enough

Overall: Nice, but not exciting, won't be looking for it.
