Nabbed a can at a beer store in Austin, TX.
"Authentic American cream ale." 5.8% ABV.
HEAD: White. Soft. Frothy. ~5 minute retention.
BODY: Clear. Filtered. Pale yellow. Somewhat dull.
Appears well-carbonated.
AROMA: 6-row malted barley/pale malt. Possible hints of corn adjunct. Moderately high malty sweetness. Faint grassy hop aromatics. Odd berry notes - strawberry? The fruity notes aren't in line with the style and don't seem to be esters.
Yeast profile is clean. Attenuation is low.
Aromatic intensity is high for the style.
TASTE: Strawberry is noticeable; call me crazy. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward - 2 or 6 row pale malt and some faint grassy hop character. I don't find any obvious adjunct - no corn or rice flavour here. If it was used, it's impressively well disguised.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, refreshing, soft, creamy. Not as direly overcarbonated as I expected.
OVERALL: A solid cream ale with an odd berry note; I guess it's an ester after all? In any case, this is better than I expected and would make a nice brew for getting shithoused on the cheap with the lads. I can't say it'll dazzle discerning drinkers, but if you're in a market that lacks Genessee, this is your play.

This is my first taste of a so called cream ale. In a clear glass it has an anemic pale yellow urine looking color. On the nose it is what I would imagine a skunks ass smells like. The taste, while subjective of course, is confusing. There is a little skunk up front followed by a sour slightly salty popcorn flavor. Very weird. The skunk goes away to leave an almost pleasant aftertaste. I bought a sixer and am almost done with number two, I’ll drink these but won’t buy again. To show how subjective all this is, my wife thinks it tastes great. Too funny.

Pale amber with a thin white head. Very light bodied, almost watery. Not a lot going on here. There's a malty-sweet note and a hoppy note, both of which are just sort of there. Unremarkable as beers go.

An honest daily that goes down nice n easy with a bit of kick. I tried it in a 12oz tin first and then purchased a 15 gallon keg on sale to test my new draft set-up. 15 gallons was probably too much of a good thing in hindsight...

Once more, my thanks go out to the inCANparable JenRay for her CANtinued support of The CANQuest (tm)! You may have seen the birthday/holiday card which reads, "People who say that I am difficult to shop for clearly do not know where to buy beer." It is even easier with her since she only wants APAs, AIPAs & DIPAs, so when I see such beers, I buy three - one for her, one for tone77 & one for me & once I have enough amassed, I send her a box. She returns at her leisure, which is fine, given my staggering backlog, hence my reviewing in the wee hours of the morning.
From the CAN: "Handcrafted in Houston, Texas"; "Authentic Ameri[CAN] Cream Ale"; "Go Texan."
I Crack!ed open the CAN and gave it an inverted Glug to enliven things this morning. It always fascinates me as to the outcome of such an undertaking. Sometimes, it will behave splendidly & stop as it reaches the rim of the glass & other times, I must be a good gauge of what is happening or I will get some overflow. In this case, it was a little of the latter, but I also got ~ 3 fingers of soapy, rocky, bone-white head that fell away during the clean-up. Color was a slightly hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4- 5). Nose had a bready, biscuity smell, very malty. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium. The taste was mildly sweet, slightly bready, but mostly unobtrusive. I actually found myself wishing for some corn adjuncts in this one as such is what I really associate with the style. This seemed kind of dull and tasteless without it. Sure, it was easy-drinking, but so is water. Finish was semi-sweet, but it lacked defining character. It needed more Ooomph! to set it apart from other light-tasting beers.
