To me it is a toss up whether this is a porter or a black ale. Its got the characteristics of both which at first sip make it kind of muddled. After letting it warm up is when this beer really shines though. Big brownish tan head when poured that stays around for a while. Short bursts of cinnamon on the noise followed by a pretty boozy smell. Very slick feel with a mix of bitterness, vanilla and cinnamon.

This is Vanilla Sunset (Buffalo Sunset (black IPA with coffee) with vanilla) with Vietnamese cinnamon. So, this is a typical Buffalo Bayou brew of them doing a variant of one of their somewhat established beers (this is most notable with their endless varieties of witbier). Sold as a black IPA, but really tastes more in the porter/stout range. Not much hop activity, but get great roast flavors that meet the cinnamon nicely. Yeah, I just don't agree that this is a black IPA, probably would score even better if put under a different style. Recommend despite the issues with the style.
