Mandarina cruises a smooth malt body from sip to swallow with a resinous, herbal follow up, finishing crisp and bright. This fun, easy drinking and approachable IPA is an H-Town classic.

While this is a little too bitter for a spring day, it would be just right in a hot Houston afternoon, right after you finish mowing the grass.

12 oz. can poured into nonic
(no date printed on can)
L: yellow-gold, almost 100% clear, topped by 1-inch head of white/offwhite foam that sticks hard and laces down nicely; keeps a thick collar of white foam; beautiful brew
S: orange pie, oranges, light bitterness, lots of sweetness, bready
T: similar to the nose but more earthy, orange peel along with some tart/sweet orange, bitter yeast, bread malt but not overly sweet; the hops or something are making this relatively bitter and dry
F: fluffy, starts light but fluffs up into an almost midweight, almost has a cask-like feel after a strong pour; there's enough carbonation to assume this would be quite crispy with a much softer pour
O: solid but not overwhelming; the nose is the highlight, and if it tasted like it smelled, it'd be a world-class IPA; as it is it's just average, pretty earthy/yeasty; still, kudos to the brewery for keeping it real with this beer ... they could easily add "natural flavors" and orange/citrus this sucker up, but they didn't, and to that I say thank ye kindly

Drank from the can, which was dated "9/16/20".
Smell is excellent. It has the promised bright citrus, along with a light peach/mango. Taste is what you'd expect to follow - some hop bitterness, complemented with resinous citrus tang. There is a solid malt backbone, reminds me a bit of Swedish rye crispbread though they probably didn't use rye. No off-flavors or harshness despite the 7% ABV. . Mouthfeel is great for an IPA, solid carbonation with the tang gives a "laced Topo-Chico" feel. With the resinous hops and midrange malt, you get a super-balanced overall brew. IPA isn't even my style, but I can smash these. Crush city, true to the name.

12 ounce can dated 3/18/21 pours a Hazy color smells floral and fruity. Tastes of apple, clove, floral. It has some bitterness. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. Overall I'd hit it again.

Pours an effervescent gold with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Above average head retention & lacing
S: Breadyness & a little citrus
T: Oranges, peach, breadyness, plus dryness up front. A little green melon sneaks in behind the powdery orange as this warms, along with a little lime. Finishes with a little pomelo, dryness & lime
MF: Medium body with moderate carbonation, pretty good balance
Easy enough to drink, but nothing memorable, was a little better on draft

From a can brewed 1/30/20. Slightly cloudy orange color with a finger of white head. Grapefruit hop smell. Medium body. Bready malt flavor with citrus and pine. Standard IPA flavors but well balanced.
