What?
What started out as a basic porter recipe evolved by adding a little bit of this and a little bit of that, using a wide variety of malts not typically seen in a porter. This includes various types of rye and a dash of smoked malt. The result—a roasty, spicy, chocolaty glass of goodness. We just threw in the Kitchen Sink moniker for good measure.
Why?
The darker roasted malts lend some coffee aromas and chocolate flavors. The rye adds some unique spicy and fruity notes throughout the tasting experience. The smoked malt adds just enough of its character to bridge everything together—not dominate the structure as in a “smoked” beer. This beer is also deceivingly dry and pairs with Middle Eastern food particularly well.

An excellent porter. As a newcomer to Wits End this was recommended to me as a fellow Guiness lover. I enjoyed the crispness of this porter as well as the detailed coffee and slightly nutty flavors. The description of this beer includes an atypical technique of using a wide variety of malt which resulted in a beer I will be ordering again. Another excellent beer from Wits End.

the grain bill on this beer is huge, where it got its name im sure. the pour is really thick and dark, motor oil look alike here, with just a small tan film on top. the nose has got a bit of everything, burnt cereal, peppery rye, toasted barley, its all happening. smells like a lot more alcohol than 5.9%, but what do I know. the flavor is huge, very robust, I thought it would be more smoky than it is based on the smell, but its coming through very fresh and harvesty, autumnal in some ways. lots of grains coming together well here, but the darker, more roasty properties really dominate. some coffee bitterness and again the alcohol in the finish. tons of body for the style, I really like the feel of this. real mellow carbonation, barely enough. another tasty treat from wits end, this is entirely unique and should be getting a little more attention here on BA in my humble opinion.
