Gravity - Brackley Beer Festival 2017.
Labelled as 3.8% ABV. Dark brown with a thin dense head.
Great aroma of milk chocolate malt and vanilla which is then passed onto the taste in a somewhat muted form.
Rather watery but I suppose this reflects the ABV.

First of all: 'Orchid' is a great name for a vanilla beer.
And it's a looker. Fabulously coffee-black with a tall, tight, light tan head. Insane roastiness on the nose, coming through with soy sauce, coffee, burnt toast, burnt popcorn, milk chocolate, caramel, and (I swear) sesame oil. Buckets of it. A mild redolent of Korean food. Weird, but good. Oh yes... and a tiny hint of vanilla. Tiny.
Tastes... of sesame, soy sauce, and vanilla. Far more savory than I'd expected, and while it isn't bad, the vanilla is misplaced. There's a tang to this, like a Japanese marinade, and a very strong briny character like an oyster stout. The vanilla needs more chocolate and coffee and caramel to really fit in. That said, it's not bad, and in some ways it reminds me of a drier version of Coca-Cola Blak, which probably nobody remembers but me.
Pleasantly strange. Strangely pleasant.
