L- Deep orange/chestnut. Poured clear (sediment left at bottle) with a fleeting 1mm head. Considering the visual drama of the caged+corked bottle there was little CO2 on opening or in the glass.
S- Very mild spices, that's all.
T- Quite dry, some quite sharp spice notes with ginger the most prominent. After a few sips I sense some of the malts so it seems less dry, but the spices seem rather over-done to me.
F- Hoppy-dry, spices, good CO2 in the mouth
O- Something different though not one I'd choose again. Too spicy for me, especially in the absense of markedly more Feel (incl some richness) plus a few more % ABV.
Fancy 750ml caged+corked 750ml bottle, which comes complete with an Xmas gift tag attached to the cage - tells you much about this beers market.
£6 Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a mixed DIY-pick order for delivery to London. BBE: Nov-2021

A 750ml bottle with a BB of May 2015. Purchased a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as a ruby winter ale spiced with cinnamon, ginger and allspice.
A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A deep, hazy coppery-orange hue with fine sediment and medium carbonation. Produces a vast head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before steadily reducing to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing.
S: Aroma of caramel malt with hints of ginger, allspice, subtle fruitiness, earthy yeast, faint grain and stewed leaves. A twinge of astringency in the background. Pretty good.
T: Tastes of caramel malt with a spicy character and a dry, bitter finish. Notes of ginger, spice, grainy malt, earthy yeast, mild fruitiness, stewed leaves/herbs and a touch of woodiness. Well-attenuated, followed by a rather harsh, herbal bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Quite astringent - the spices dry the palate. An aftertaste of spice, acrid bitterness, earthiness and vague caramel malt.
O: A decent stab at a spiced winter ale - though quite bitter as a result. Looks lovely, while the aroma and flavour are decidedly spicy. Hints of ginger and allspice are underpinned by caramel malt and yeast esters. Body is OK. A tad too bitter to be well balanced; could benefit from an addition of sweeter malt. That said, still a cut above many run-of-the-mill Xmas ales. Worth trying if you come across it.
