A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2015. Picked up last year at the York Beer festival. Described on the label as a best bitter hopped with Cascade.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A brownish-amber hue with faint haze and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer.
S: Aroma of fruity hops with hints of pine resin, subtle citrus, grass/hay, caramel malt, mild brown sugar, a touch of grain and earthy yeast. Not bad, though the hops and sweet malt clash slightly.
T: Tastes of aromatic hops and caramel malt with a crisp bitter finish. Notes of pine resin, mild weed, citrus peel, grass/hay, grain, caramel, subtle brown sugar, earthy yeast, stewed hops and a twinge of cardboard in the background. Slightly sweet, followed by a robust bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Pretty astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter stewed hops/leaves, mild pine, caramel malt and earthy yeast.
O: A decent bitter with a slightly confused character. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour showcase fruity hop notes, sweet malt and stewed hops. Body is OK. The sweetness and piny hops don't quite mesh, but otherwise it's alright. Worth trying if you come across it.
