A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2017. Picked up from the brewery just the other day. Described on the label as a wheat beer flavoured with bog myrtle (Myrica gale).
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A golden-amber hue with faint haze and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing.
S: Aroma of bog myrtle, which has a lightly floral, lemony quality to it. Hints of herbs, faint tannins, subtle grain and ale yeast. A delicate but pleasant aroma.
T: Tastes of bog myrtle, with notes of herbal tannins, light floral hints, faint citrus, ale yeast, vague grain and subtle stewed leaves. Mildly astringent, followed by a restrained herbal bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Aftertaste of aromatic bog myrtle, bitter tannins and yeast.
O: Rather nice, and certainly a touch out of the ordinary. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are a pleasant blend of bog myrtle, light grain and yeast. The wheat doesn't have much impact. Good body; perhaps a tad light. This may in fact be the best herbal beer I've tried - the balance is superb. Enough bog myrtle to be discernible but not so much as to introduce a harsh bitterness. Very drinkable and well worth sampling if you have the chance.
