A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2018. Purchased recently from the brewery. Described on the label as a strong pale ale hopped entirely with British hop varieties; Bramling Cross, Pioneer and Northdown are used.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A rich amber colour with fine floating sediment and plentiful carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a patchy surface layer.
S: Aroma of fruity ale yeast with hints of caramel malt, grain, hay, subtle leafy hops and a lingering sweetness. Has a slight whiff of homebrew about it - underwhelming.
T: Tastes of fruity ale yeast with notes of grass/hay, leafy hops, grainy malt, mild caramel and a touch of earthiness. Faintly sweet, followed by a subdued bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with light carbonation and good body. Aftertaste of ale yeast esters, subtle leafy hops and grainy malt.
O: Rather average - I wanted to like this more than I actually do. Or maybe this is just a subpar batch. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are a fairly bland mix of yeast, malt and mild hops. Body is OK. The brewer did tell me that the bottled beers are filtered, so perhaps the cask version of this ale has more character? At any rate, drinkable but not sublime.
