A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2018, so it's a little out of date. I'm hoping it has held up. Purchased a while back from the brewery. The label describes it as a porter brewed with five different malt varieties.
A: Poured into a pint mug. Bottle conditioned. A dark reddish-brown hue; intense carbonation is visible when held to the light. Produces a large head of creamy tan foam with excellent retention - this slowly settles as a thick surface layer. Lovely lacing.
S: Aroma of dark malt with hints of roasted grain, dried fruit, subtle coffee, chocolate, ale yeast and a faint sour twang in the background. Pretty good.
T: Tastes of roasted malt with notes of mild burnt grain, molasses, coffee, bitter chocolate, subtle dried fruit, ale yeast and faint stewed hops. Slightly sweet, followed by a substantial malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with lively carbonation and a somewhat thin body for the style. Lightly astringent. Aftertaste of bitter roasted malt, coffee, mild molasses, ale yeast and faint stewed hops.
O: A solid effort at the style. Looks superb, while the aroma and flavour showcase roasted malt character underpinned by ale yeast and faint hops. Body is OK but could be creamier. Drinkable and satisfying - worth sampling.
