Poured from 12oz can into a dimpled mug. This is a collaboration with Woods Coffee.
Appearance: dark, deep brown hue with plenty of haze and no light let through. Head is a thick finger of pillowy dark-tan foam; quite good indeed.
Smell: sweet, chocolatey malt with a solid coffee component. It's like a sweet mocha latte, only a beer. Very good indeed!
Taste: caramelly, roasty and with just a hint of chocolate, the coffee shows up in a big way. There's a bit of green vegetal quality, probably due to the coffee more than any hops, but still it is very good indeed.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a very big carbonation and a good creaminess.
Overall: a well done coffee porter. It's bitter and astringent in its way, but not overpowering; the coffee is a little bit green but it is mostly balanced. Definitely worth a swig.

The danger with coffee porters, IMHO, is to let the coffee dominate the flavors so much that the rest of the beer can't catch up.
This offering from Kulshan doesn't suffer from that affliction. The base beer, reflected in the magnificent nearly-jet-black colors and heavy char/chocolate notes on the aroma/taste, sashays effortlessly with the coffee that is a superb example of the style.
