Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. An unexpected light gusher on opening, but caught most of it. Pours a hazy medium, dull golden amber with a one finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of candi malt, gin and dried, light stone fruit; gin forward. Flavor is candi malt, gin, fresh and dried light stone fruit, hints of citrus; flavor dies out a bit in the finish, but leaves a lingering and pleasant gin spiciness. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess; nice mouth feel. An interesting treatment of a Belgian style ale. The base malt has characters of both a blonde and golden ale; if there was a Belgian strong blonde/golden ale style, this would fit in perfectly. There are vague fruit flavors throughout, but the gin masks any subtlety in identifying fruit, even though the gin character is at a good level. Really nice creamy body and attractive head. Alcohol very well covered; drinks like an ale of half the ABV. Overall an interesting, off-beat Belgian style ale and a good barreling treatment. Glad I found this.
