22oz bottle purchased at Huckleberry's in Spokane for $5.99. No obvious freshness date. This is my first beer from this brewery, located in a town I lived in long ago. I have up til now been unimpressed with beers capitalizing on the regional popularity of the Seahawks (Hilliard's 12 and Dick's 12th Can). Maybe third time will be the one that charms.

Poured into a Boundary Bay shaker pint glass (thanks, beertunes), this was a moderately chill-hazed golden shade of amber, with a pillowy, beige colored head that took it's time dropping and left lots of lace.

Piney and grapefruity hop aroma, with a little bit of biscuity malt scent along for the ride.

Tastes largely like it smells. Hop forward, with a now-slightly-old school PNW IPA aroma that is piney and grapefruity but not otherwise with much else, with a faint, semi-sweet malt flavor just enough to balance things in the background. Things end with a dry zap to the palate coupled with a faint,.caramelly malt sweetness. As it warms, a small amount of buttery diacetyl sneaks into the finish as well.

Medium bodied, with a slick, oily mouthfeel.

As beers capitalizing on fandom go, this isn't bad, but it's nothing terribly remarkable, either when compared to other IPAs available locally, and is more expensive than some. The bomber bottle does it no favors in terms of cost and actually hurts when you consider a 12oz serving might manage to be polished off before the diacetyl becomes obvious. I'll give Puyallup River another try at some point, but will probably pass on this in the future.
