22 oz. bottle:
Pours clouded lemon-drop yellow with a creamy white lasting head. Lacing sticks.
The smell is like Christmas potpourri - cinnamon, ginger, (nutmeg and peppermint?) with a floral touch.
By the nose I thought that it was going to be a spice bomb, with not enough substance. but the spices add a "Christmas" flavor (mainly cinnamon and ginger) to a solid, creamy, smooth cream ale with bready grain, some yeast and a touch of floral hops coming through.
Alcohol is very well-hidden.
Though it's spiced heavy, and on the higher abv level, it's smooth and approachable.
Going with the higher of the two scores I had in mind for overall. It's a nice, pleasant "Christmas" novelty beer that leaves a refreshing spiced feeling on the palate. An interesting brew.
