taste - this beer is so bad walter would roll over in his grave that his name is on it - maybe this is a bad bottle but sour salty malts and that about it

Amber color w/ good head retention. There's a constant flow of carbonation to the head.

Smells very bready and toasted malt. The menu advertises this as being heavy on the hops... it doesn't show up in the smell.

...still waiting for the hops to show up but they are not there. There's a slight spice to it, but mainly it's a toasty biscuit flavor. It kind of reminded me of a Fat Tire, but not as robust.

Good carbonation and crisp. There a pleasant peppery finish.

It was a hot day and it hit the spot while sitting out in the courtyard. A nice easy drinker, but don't get fooled by the advertisement for hops.

Whoa...not the hoppy hop-fest I expected from the description.
I wanted to scrape my palate with a grapefruit heavy hop bomb, but I got a buttery beer instead.
Left a strong slick feel, with very low head retention.
A bit out of style, I thought, but maybe it was a bad batch.
Didn't stop me from drinking the whole pint.

12oz bottle.

Poured a medium golden color with a larger sized frothy white head. Lots of small suspended floaters. Aromas of toasted grains, light caramel, bready and a trace of citrus. Tastes of bread, lighter caramel, and citrus. Lacing left on the glass.

Notes from 8/5/08

Hazy apricot juice. Nice parade of bubbles. Fairly lively head. Light lacing.

Big bready scent. Off beat flavor. Not bad. Goes down easily. Thicker than the average beer. Good, not great. I've never seen it before and will probably never see it again so I'll enjoy it. This'll be pretty quick though.

Pours surprisingly light for an amber ale, a hazy golden with only a hint of amber in it. There is a very small white head that hangs around for a little while with a bit of lacing. Roasted malts dominate the nose with hints of hops and a very strong grain profile as well. The taste is also big on roasted malts and grain with the hops making an appearance in the finish. The mouthfeel is very dry and crisp with lots of carbonation. This is an interesting take on an amber ale and fairly enjoyable.

Thanks to Elric for the great extra. I had never heard of them before but that was about to change. Served straight out of the fridge, I poured this twelve ounce bottle into a pint glass. Consumed on 07/31/2008.

The pour was nice, a very clear dark amber color was what came out of the bottle. Nice carbonation could be seen streaming up towards the top. Small, maybe one inch high head of white came through first, and then settled down to nothing, with only token lace on the sides of the glass.

The aroma was extremely rich. Lots of vinous smells here, biscuit as well, with a thick grain like profile. As it warmed some nice pine like hops started to take over, and maybe a touch of coffee or chocolate? Definitely something dark going on here. This translated over very well to the overall flavor. Rich and full bodied for an amber ale, this was most unusual. There was a big burst of caramel and coffee infused grass like taste in the initial wave. Very rich with a sweet, buttery, biscuit like middle of thee profile. Very nice fresh green like flavor and a strong hop note in the finish that faded into a nice grain like taste that lingered long after everything else faded. A really nice ale to sit down with for dinner as the flavors really come together quite well and the body was just wonderful. I easily could have had another when this one was done.

Overall this was one of the better amber ales I have ever had. Very rich and full, with a taste that was much different then anything I had in the past. I would have to recommend giving this one a try, really a unique experience all around!

Appearance: A hazy orange amber-bodied beer with a one-and-a-half finger head that fades quickly but leaves some good streaky lacing in its wake. Sparse but pinprick-fine carbonation.

Aroma: Vegetal and citrus hoppiness, highly roasted malts. Rather mild.

Taste: An amber this is not! The first thing that hits me is ... coffee?! Lightly roasted at first, and then the rest of the malt comes through - grainy breadiness, burnt caramel, other lightly roasted and toasted notes - with plenty of balancing bitterness, a few herbal and floral hop notes, some stronger citrus (orange is prominent), light and pleasant malt astringencies in the finish. A very dry and delicate tasting beer - very enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth and medium-bubbled. Medium bodied, too.

Drinkability: Great - low in alcohol, not cloying, and fairly complex. Definitely not an amber ale, however - more like a pale ale, if you ask me. A really surprising and interesting beer. Recommended.

Picked up a fourpack at the store in the Roundhouse.

A very slight amber haze that reminds me of orange gatorade. A one and a half finger head after the pour, that very quickly recedes to nothing. No bubbles or lacing. The is a simple yet plain biscuit and bread aroma with a mild balance of hos, giving an herbal note to the aroma. The taste is a plain yet satisfying crystal malt, giving notes of baked grain and a medium dollop of citrus hops balances everything out. Very simple yet easy too drink beer. Though not much to look at.

Served as a medium amber colored beer with moderate white puffy head.

Smell has distinct notes of citrusy hops, more than I would expect for this style, but very enjoyable.

Taste also has a strong hop profile, with the malt definitely taking a back seat.

Nice well-rounded beer with a good taste profile. One of their better beers.

Bought in a four pack from Wine Knows in Grayslake, IL. Poured a golden orange into my duvel tulip. A nice cream two finger bhead dissipates quicckly but leaves nice lacing. Lacking somewhat in any noticable aromas beside a caremlly malt. Taste is mild bitterness and and nice hints of caramel and apricot. Moutfeel was crisp and clean. A nice local brew that is worth checking out.

Comes out of the tap clear and copper with a brief show of its white head. Moderately carbonated. American citrus hops and toasted malt are well ballanced both in the aroma and flavor. Bitterness easly cuts through the gentle light crystal malt caramel sweetness. Appropriate body for the style give a sightly slick mouthfeel that finishes dry. A nice one to try.

A- This beer has a warm caramel color with a very slight hazy. There is a thin wisp of white foam that moves around the glass but hangs on. This beer has a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles.

S- The smell of light toasted malt has a dry quality and is pretty clean. No smell of hops even when it warms.

T- The toasted malt flavor comes through but is quickly cut short by a punch of grapefruit and citrus flavored hops. The hops finish with a nice burst of bitterness that hangs after the sip.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a slight creaminess to it as this beer warms. The finish is just a hint dry.

D- This beer has some good flavor but it would be nice to have some hops in the nose to add more interests.
