I tried this beer on tap at the brewpub where it is made (Walter Payton's Roundhouse Restaurant) in Aurora, IL. They offer free samples of their beers to customers who would like a free taste before deciding whether to order a full serving, but I foolishly failed to take advantage of this offer and paid the full price of $4.50 per glass without sampling first.

The beer was a medium amber coior with just a half finger of white head which left no lacing at all. It was actually a lot lighter in color and clarity than I expected for a chocolate beer.

The smell was definately chocolate, but not a rich dark or milk chocolate. It was more like a dry unsweetened cacao powder smell. There was also a touch of vanilla bean aroma.

The taste was also a mix of malt, cacao powder, and vanilla extract with no noticable hop presence at all. It wasn't an altogether terrible taste. It just wasn't that good.

The mouthfeel borders on watery thin and the low carbonation makes it easy to down. I just don't know why anyone would want to.

Served as alight amber colored beer with moderate white puffy head.

Strong notes of chocolate in the smell.

Taste also is strongly chocolate. Way too much chocolate.

More chocolate at the ending.

This beer is all about chcolate. I did not like it at all. Way too much for me.

Pours a medium amber orange with no head, no foam, and no film. The arom is a very creamy milk chocolate with just a little toasty malt underneath the chocolate. The first sip is a mix of very swet cream, milk chocolate, and a touch of white toast. Maybe like a piece of whit bread smeared thick with Nutella. Myabe even a little white chocolatey. The palate is sweet, but a bit watery with a sugary finish. This beer would be very easy to drink for the flavors, butits just a touch to sweet to be sessionable in my opinion.
