On tap at the brewpub.
Beer #5 of the 4th All Hallow's Eve dinner. Paired with the main course of Porchetta, white bean stew, chard. A mega beer for a mega meal. Pairing rating; 9.5/10.
Cloudy reddish-brown pour, with a fair amount of off-white head coming out of the taps, simmering down to a wispy layer of bubbles. Caramel malt and fruitcake in the nose, hints of red wine and oak. Good taste, pretty much everything I enjoy in the style: rich malty sweetness, candied fruits, red wine, oak, mild tartness, earth. I'm not a huge fan of pork belly--which is basically what the porchetta was--but the piece I had was cooked to my liking at least, and combined with the huge savory nature of the bean stew, this beer made for a great robust pairing. Flavor explosion. Body was medium to full, mouthfeel was chewy and complex. Very nice!
