Milkshake IPA - Passion FruitMilkshake IPA - Passion Fruit
Notes: Brewed with oats, lactose sugar, and wheat flour. Conditioned atop Madagascar vanilla beans and a stupid amount of luscious passion fruit purée. Hopped intensely with Mosaic and Citra. Dreamt up with our main daimies at @omnipolloshatt.

I tried this chilled from the can in a glass.

the color is golden with thick haze and off white head with small bead and lace clings well. The smell is all fruit -tropical sweet and tangy with characteristic passionfruit aroma. The feel is tangy fruity and tropical with a slight sweetness in the feel but not quite sugary sort of thick with a tangy semidry finish.

The flavor is like nectar -very fruity yet somewhat sweet and sour with some tropical tastes of passionfruit with the yeast and slight sweetness of the sugar hops are present but only provide a supporting bitterness and don't flavor as much as keep it from being cloying. This is one of the best'fruit IPA's' I have tried even if it is a milkshake IPA

Pours a wonderful yellow, milky haze. The smell is dominated by passionfruit and citrus. The taste is heavily passionfruit and is accompanied by a dominant smooth, milky mouthfeel. I wish I had more... This is a near perfect beer.

Been ISO any kind of tired hands milkshake variant for a while now, finally was able to grab this. 16oz can poured into snifter.

Look is an incredibly murky straw yellow. Looks just like orange juice, maybe a little lighter. Hazy as can get, no light coming through this one.

Smell is extremely fruity, musky, and milky. I'm getting plenty of melon, smells like cantaloupe and lemon pie. Butterscotch and vanilla notes are coming through as well. Milky sweetness is coming through, I guess this is the smell of lactose? I have no idea what this musty smell is, but very intriguing.

Taste is extremely sweet notes of melons, pinneapple, vanilla, and graham cracker up front. In the back end, it tastes like a pastry or a strawberry Danish filling. Almost getting some cheesecake in there as well. Sweet buttery malt backbone, almost no hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is just as expected. Extremely milky, creamy and velvety.

Fantastic novelty beer.

Super hazy mango yellow.

Very interesting IPA. The lactose shows. Lots of fruit. The passion fruit is nice. Floral and earthy. Not bitter. The vanilla shows lightly.

Very solid. Lots of great flavors.

16 oz. can. Very hazy pale yellow. Smell does not have diacetyl! Yay. Tropical fruits, lactose, vanilla. Maybe just a little bit of diacetyl... Taste has a much more distinct passionfruit flavor. Sweet lactose. Aggressive hoppy bitterness. Lingering vanilla flavor. Medium body. Seems less creamy than the Lychee version. It has just the slightest hint of diacetyl. Forgivable amount. Interesting, if not very drinkable.

Pour is pale yellow, completely hazed, with a white head. Nose is super fruity, tropical, with an interesting melon musk, most likely the lactose. Flavor follows suit, incredibly fruity, super creamy feel, moderate lactose that plays well into the fruit, husky musk of melon. Bitterness is light in the finish, soft carb, full feel.

Really interesting and obviously well done, but doesn't really resonate with me. The appearance is hazy, as expected. But something more; almost viscous with large bubbles floating throughout ... like boba tea. Color is oddly white, milky (duh). Head doesn't stick around, no lacing. To me, the appearance is off-putting. The smell is milky-sweet with a hint of acidity. At first, this really struck me as strawberry instead of passionfruit. I strongly associate strawberry with a creamy sweet element - strawberry icecream, strawberries and cream - but have no such association with passionfruit. The tropical elements are lost under the sweetness. Not bad, smells quite nice, but not initially a strong tropical note. The sweetness was a surprise to me. I expected this to just be a really hazy beer with lactose. Apocalypse Cow uses lactose and still maintains a strong hop element and IPA character. This is far removed from IPA terrain. As it warms, the tropical notes come out in the finish, as does some hop character and bitterness. The feel is not refreshing, creamy not coating.

For me, 16 ounces is too much. I tire of it before the end. It's a novelty beer; a really well done novelty that hits all the milkshake notes without feeling / tasting artificial. But I generally don't want my beer to taste like a milkshake.

Big thanks to my friend Brandon for this one.

Overall a very good beer and nose, though the Lychee version was significantly better...this has less fruit in the taste. Still a great beer though.

Poured from a growler into an 8oz Tired Hands stemmed glass. I remember not being incredibly impressed with this version of the "milkshake" series, because the fruit wasn't all that big and upfront.

The look of this beer is a hazy, cloudy yellow capped by a frothy, sea foam white head which leaves cascades of white lacing behind in the glass. The head dies down quickly though, leaving a thin membrane of micro-bubbles on top.

The aroma has made a change for the better with a little time in the growler. It pops with bright juicy passion fruit and vanilla aromas. The passion fruit contributes a tartness to the profile, with notes of lemon meringue and key lime pie.

The flavor is a mixture of fruity passion fruit, pineapple, key lime pie, and baked goods. The vanilla and lactose sugar recreate the "milkshake" aspect of the beer, giving the flavor and texture a smooth, buttery, pastry flavor in the aftertaste, along with a soft, voluptuous texture. There is a slight tang towards the finish from the tart passion fruit, and the finish itself is long and coats the palate.

This is not the best in the series of Milkshakes, but it has improved tremendously from where it was when I tried it on tap. The fruit has come out to play, the tropical aroma is a nice contrast to the warm, savory tones of vanilla, and the body pulls it all together with the fullness from the lactose sugar. It's a great beer, and it works well alone and with some soft, stinky cheese. I opened the growler tonight because I just bought some cheese from the market called Trifecta, out of NY. Washed in Saison, this cheese is strong flavored, stinky, and creamy as could be. Passionfruit Milkshake (or, PMS as I'll refer to it) went incredibly well with this cheese. The tangy, fruity, bitter qualities countered the savory, creamy, umami flavors of the cheese, and the fatty oils were lifted right off the palate. Highly recommended ...
