On tap at CBC 2016. Pitch black with a thin beige head. Tons of licorice and mint, along with caramel and chocolate.

A small 4 oz. pour at the Fermentaria. Near-black with a short-lived head.
A mild nose. Licorice, dark malts, vanilla. The rootbeer is certainly there. Reminded me of rootbeer barrel candies.
The taste is as advertised - rootbeer and a touch of vanilla. Not overly sweet. There's a licorice note mid-palate that was a little off-putting to me, but I'm not huge on licorice in general.
Mouthfeel is medium. Could be a little creamier/fuller.
This is a beer I wouldn't want much more than 4 ounces of. Spot-on for what it's going for, but a little odd.

They hit the nail on the head as far as making an old-fashioned root beer-style real beer. Overall, it's a little sweet and big bodied and boldly flavored. Fun to try, but not something I want more than a taste of, if even 4 oz.

Very sassafras to me. The wife tasted the spearmint. Good either way.
