an oat based ipa, which is a takeaway from this in voge east coast hazy ipa style that i think has some staying power. the rounding, expansive, earthy, starchy nature of the oats is wonderful with the hops, any hops, seems to extend their life and window in a beer like this compared to all barley ipas, its like a longer slower evolving experience, almost seems to let the drinker taste more of the hops, experience more of them, i dont know, it just gives a broader spectrum i think of what the hops are capable of, what they really taste like, maybe the oils cling to the starchy oat residuals more than they do barley, im not sure the science on this, its just a theory, but its well on display in this one, where the slightly thicker, creamy headed, pale cloudy brew holds a long piney hop nose with subtle grapefruit peel and bitterness, the glass captures it, and it feels dense in my nostrils, super fresh, familiar but different too. the flavor isnt particularly malty, but the oats do absolutely add a cool slightly sweet bready complexion, and the hops just thrive on it. wet pine from the centennial is obvious right away, with a very bitter citric component from the simcoe in behind, really nice use of these classic varietals, and their synergy together is undeniable. long and smooth from the oats, ramping up to a final bitterness thats a little more than i think it needs, but so flavorful its hard to be critical. i love the body and the dryness, and overall this is a mighty tasty ipa, a sort of east coast fusion, the oats are a great addition and really give this one its unique identity.

From draft at TH. Pours a lightly cloudy straw gold color with a thick white head. Tropical orange notes on the nose, and a pleasant softness on the palate. This is a relaxed, laid back IPA with a mellow finish. A nice change from aggressively bitter IPAs
