Szechuan IPA brewed with wheat, oats, kosher salt, Szechuan peppercorn and a touch of MSG. Well hopped with Amarillo, Chinook, and Columbus.

msg in a beer? on purpose? that seems weird to me, but its not an obvious contributor, at least as far as i can tell. a flavor enhancer, i can see that, but its lost on me here. thats not the point of this one though, so lets not detract from what this is at its core, which is a really well done hoppy beer with some real cool organic tasting grains far beyond what we get from pale barley malt, i love the oats in here, and think thats something that makes tired hands pretty distinct in general, they use these grains so well, especially oats! cool hop profile, and the szechuan doesnt make my palate numb like it does when i have it in the raw flower or bud form, but i do get some of its semi-astringent bitter and gripping properties, floral and pollenated and weird, but cool and herbal and springy and fun, different, and neat with the hops. not sure i would have thought to use these like this, but it certainly works, maybe a bit too hoppy to appreciate this element all the way, but as an overall beer, its pretty darn dialed. one of the more interesting and strange beers we had in here, but grapefruit hoppy and deliciously drinkable. these guys rule!

From draft at TH. Pours a light, hazy yellow with a nice white head of foam. There was citrus/hoppy resin on the nose, but lots of "dank" which seemed a bit too pronounced. Certainly salt and pepper on the palate, but not particularly attractive. I doubt the "touch of MSG" added anything good. A rare TH miss for me.
