Throwing Shapes is a Rye Double IPA. Brewed with heaps of flaked rye and exclusively hopped in the kettle with the almighty Simcoe. Then aggressively dry hopped with Equinox and Citra. Big notes of grapefruit zest, orange oil, pine tar, and a snappy earthiness.

On tap at Tired Hands Brew Cafe in Ardmore, PA.

This one pours with a hazy dark orange hue, with a small head, and lots of sticky sticky lacing.

This one smells like resinous pine, light rye spice, raw grassiness, with lemon, grapefruit, bitter orange, and light maltiness.

This is really tasty and burly. It's got a healthy bitterness, both from the piney hops and rye spiciness. Additionally, there's a big juicy tangerine and grapefruit hop flavor. It's well balanced, and not really malty at all.

This is sticky and fairly clean, with a good level of carbonation. It's surprisingly drinkable.

More NE-style DIPAs should have rye in them. It adds a nice spicy balancing act for the big juicy flavors.

Crowler bought today at the brewery.

Huge crackly thick foam. Highly carbed. Hazy grapefruit juice looking brew. Lots of lacing rings all down the glass.

Simcoe bomb. Deep dank pine notes, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon peel, and orange pith.

Rye is def the most aggressive flavor. Lemon zest, some lime too? But overall this is incredibly balanced actually. Slightly piney and fruity hop profile but the pale and oat malt balances this out wonderfully. Underlying hints of grapefruit.

The mouthfeel might be the best thing about this beer. Creamy, smooth. The beer is highly carbed but it drinks smoother than milk. 8.8%?!?! This honestly drinks like it’s 4.5. Just incredible.

This is actually, honestly the most balanced double ipa I’v ever had, ever. The nose is so much simcoe and fruits, danky. The flavor is so insanely balanced, you know the hops are there but they don’t overwhelm and destroy your palate. You would think this is a session beer until it sneaks up on ya. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Highly highly recommended.
