Brewed with a grist of nearly 100% malted oats and virtually no hops. Primary fermented with a blend of our house cultures in a large horizontal Vin Santo cask and aged for well over a year. This beer went through some pretty wild swings over the past two years, which was as scary to observe as it was joyful... and really, now that we understand more about the ebb and flow of spontaneous fermentation, the end fermentation profile of Early Camel Skull makes much more sense. Refermented in the bottle for natural carbonation. Brewed in December 2016. Bottled in April 2018. Notes of yuzu flesh, dark sour cherry, hard watermelon candies, old lemon funk, and an old slightly musty cellar essence.

Early Camel Skull is a wine explosion. Aged in a Vin Santo cask for well over a year, it’s vinous, dry, sharp and subtly tart. It’s bright and refreshing.

Poured from a cork'n'capped bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip. Very cool glossy bottle art.

L: Slightly hazed light golden pour with 2 fingers of fizzy white head. Nice lacing.

S: Tart and funky... definitely a 'Tired Hands' saison.

T.F: Tart without being sour. Lemon citrus, green apple skin, oak, must, and white wine. Honey, melon, and pear. Complex and funky. Modest acidity. Medium to light bodied... effervescent carbonation.

O: Absolutely outstanding and tops for the style. Tired Hands rarely disappoints and this is one of their best.

Beautiful, bright golden color. Almost perfectly clear, but can tell it’s unfiltered.

The nose brings lemon mixing with green apples and a funky aspect. Dry oak and a pleasantly balanced acidity.

The taste brings in a ton of green apples, lemon moves over into the passenger side, while a dark cherry hops in the back seat for the ride.

Perfectly balanced acidity. Nice, prickly carbonation that leaves air all the way to your stomach. Dry, oak wood.

On tap at Sovereign DC. Smell was promising. Taste just did not match-undrinkable, like something died in the line. Baffled.

Hazed gold with strong effervescence and three fingers of rocky white head. Moderate sloppy lacing. Sort of Duvel-like in the appearance, but without the retention.

Pleasant aroma of lemon, light tea and faint barnyard funk.

Lemon stands out first again in the taste, but then steps back. It’s balanced by a mixture of must, funk, green apple and white wine — even watermelon. Just the lightest touch of wood. The lemon, apple and white wine mix in the aftertaste with relatively strong, enjoyable acidity.

Lightly syrupy feel with lively carbonation.

A delicious all-around beer. The balance of fruit, acidity and light funk are fantastic. One of Tired Hands’ best.

750 ml. bottle split with a friend.

Pours bright, hazy yellow with minimal white head.

The nose and taste are pure green apple. I've never tasted a purer expression of green apple in a beer. Tart, deep apple (flesh and skin) with tart lemon, round honey, and light cheese.

The mouthfeel is medium. The tartness is medium as well.

Overall, great. TH is known for their milkshake IPAs and weird beers, but their straightforward sours and saisons are "Magickal." Belgian-level.

L - Pours hazy golden, half an inch of foamy head.
S - Notes of sour cherry, sweet tarts.
T - The taste changes a lot from when you first take a sip to when you swallow it. Similarly to the smell there are notes of sour cherry, watermelon, and sweet tarts.
F - Light carbonation, it almost feels like it’s hydrating.
O - I really enjoy this beer, it’s absolutely awesome. Very well rounded and delicious.
