On draught at the Fermentaria. It pours a pretty, pastel lemon-orange color with a creamy, bright white cap and extensive, soapy lacing. The smell is surprisingly sedate on when poured from a tap (it may have a more robust nose when poured from a can). There is lemon, oats, and subtle floral hops. The taste opens with lemon and pineapple, with notes of honey, oats, white wine grape from the Nelson hops, and resinous pine needles. It's quite tangy and finishes with a bitter bite which I assume comes from the Pacific Jade hops, along with pepper and a hint of astringency. The mouth feel is pleasing with above-average carbonation and it drinks easily for 8.1% ABV. Overall, Explicit Unfolded is well-conceived and finely-crafted. It's a first rate New England IPA with lots of flavor. It's a bit more bitter than many NIPAs, which is welcome.

From 16oz can dated 01/06/2020. From the TH Instagram post: "Explicit Unfolded is a Wildflower Honey & Southern Hemisphere Hop Double IPA. Brewed with a base of domestic Pilsner malt, flaked triticale (a sort of wheat/rye hybrid), and malted oats, as well as a generous helping of New Jersey wildflower honey, and plenty of New Zealand-grown Cascade hops. Dry hopped aggressivley with some of our favorites from down under: Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and Pacfic Jade. Super zesty and pungent! Notes of Concord grape, preserves lemon, minutemaid fruit punch, and mango lassi." Some sweetness in the background from the honey. Wonderful nose, plenty of dankness and bitterness. Very nice.

It’s refreshing to have a soft ipa that doesn’t chase the lactose/juice bomb concept. The pacific jade and Nelson complement each other well. Hop bitterness is present that reminds me this is an ipa. However it still possesses the soft mouthfeel. I understand why tired hands produces the lactose fruit adjunct ipas. It draws the crowds. But their simpler modern hoppy ales (church, hop hands, evpb, kNuckle, punge, high road) And Saisons are their most well crafted beers.
