Im sampling a cool 16 oz can poured into a snifter. Beer is part of my BIF 33 winnings from @browniewithnuts. Thank you!
The seam appears to have a very small leak as some drops have seeped down the can. It still opens with a pop an the can is carbonated and pressurized.
The beer pours a rick dark black coffee color with a dense creamy tan head of 4 cm. I cant fit the entire beer into the snifter due to the creamy head expansion. This foam has faded completely after a few minutes in the glass.
the aroma on this beer is some roasted malt and dark chocolate mixing with some light spices, cinnamon and nutmeg. I also do get a little bit of maple syrup in the background. there is also a bit of a pie crust doughy note on the nose, which was surprising. No hint of hops and the ABV is also well hidden for a bigger beer.
the first sip reveals a medium to thick body with very fine and mild carbonation. texture is smooth and slightly sticky on my palate and lips after each sip.
The flavor is similar to what the nose advertises with lots of dark malts up front with roasted malts and very dark chocolates. I do get a little cinnamon here and hints of maple again, but no vanilla and no sweeter malt character. The spices do linger on the swallow. No hints of hops and the ABV is hidden until after the swallow where I do get a little bit of warming.
A pretty solid imperial stout that I am enjoying this winter evening.
