It starts with a base of 2-row, oat malt and flaked oats. Hopped in the kettle with Citra again and again, with even more Citra.

A foamy pour emptied the entire contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. Apparently, wheat in the wort can't be blamed for this visual mess. The froth recedes unevenly and unattractively, allowing one to wonder, whatever happened to barley malt in an IPA? It's dark yellow-amber in color and opaque. At least the Citra Hops in the aroma, there's not much else, give some promise. Of course, a heavily oated brew is going to have decent mouthfeel and this does, without becoming overly sticky, nor thick. Dry hopping doesn't necessarily mean adding extra bitterness and this doesn't. It merely intensifies the hop taste inclusion. Overall, it's soft across the tongue, nicely bodied and hoppy bitter enough for a true IPA lover to enjoy. It's good, almost very good, but the reliance on oats gives the starch component a shallow sweetness where more barley would have provided a more complex earthiness. Nonetheless, this is a serious contender for a recommended beer, especially if your taste buds are refined to the point of liking Citra Hops specifically.
