Extra Vanilla Milkshake IPA is one of our favorite killer riffs on our over-the-top Culinary IPA series. Brewed with a heavy amount of fluffy n floaty oats and creamy lactose sugar. Hopped AND dry hopped intensely with Mosaic & Citra and then conditioned atop TWICE our usual amount of luscious Madagascar vanilla beans. Dreamt up with our forever loving Swedish life mates Omnipollo =). Notes of vanilla ice cream, blueberry candies, sugar cookie, bright stone fruit, citrus leaf, and guava pastry. 7.2% abv.

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a murky golden body beneath a short head of bright white foam. I can see that some particulate has settled at the bottom of the glass but I can't tell what it is. The aroma is citrusy and smells like Citra hops. There's Mosaic in there as well but I'm not finding them, perhaps in the flavor... yes, it has the blueberry note that Mosaic is known for. There's a lot of vanilla in this one, hence the name, but I am surprised. The vanilla suggests to the brain that the beer is sweeter than it is. There's also a strong sugar cookie note. Almost everything they wrote in the description of the beer is correct (see the notes below the beer listing) although I'm not getting "bright stone fruit" so much as just some mild apricot and nectarine, and I get some guava but not "guava pastry". The one descriptor that they came up with, and something that I'd never have thought of, is "citrus leaf". I recently cooked some Thai coconut curry with Kaffir lime leaves and tasted them before and after, and yeah, that kind of rough and somewhat citrusy/leafy taste is actually there as well. Some other flavor notes I'm finding include lychee, pineapple, and golden caramel. In the mouth it's medium bodied and velvety smooth because of all the extra proteins and lactose as well as a fine-bubbled, slightly restrained carbonation. I'm almost all of the way through this, and I've drank it too quickly; I can feel the 7.2% ABV getting to me. It's just so good that I couldn't stop. The only minor negative I have is really nothing at all. The head retention and lacing could have been better, but at the same time the slightly lower carbonation level is important as well and so it's a more than fair trade-off. I'm normally not a big fan of milkshake beers but I love this!
