A 330ml can with a BB of May 2018, so it's a little out of date. Given its strength I'm hoping it has aged well. Acquired a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label calls it an Imperial Vietnamese Coffee Milk Porter; the ingredients include Vietnamese coffee and lactose.
A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. Can-conditioned. A very dark brown colour that appears ultra-black in the glass. Produces a large head of creamy brown foam that rapidly settles and dissipates.
S: Aroma of rich roasted coffee with hints of dark malt, burnt grain, subtle molasses, chocolate, earthiness, vague fruitiness, ale yeast and faint stewed leaves. Complex and decadent - fantastic.
T: Tastes of intense roasted coffee with notes of burnt grain, dark malt, bitter chocolate, mild molasses, a touch of caramel, lactose sweetness, earthiness, faint spice, ale yeast and vague stewed leaves. Quite sweet, followed by a powerful malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and good body. Pretty astringent; dries the palate. Could be a tad creamier for the strength. Aftertaste of bitter roasted coffee, dark malt, chocolate, molasses, lactose, earthiness and faint stewed leaves.
O: Excellent - a rich, complex imperial coffee porter that packs a punch. Looks good, while the aroma and flavour are stuffed with coffee, roasted malt and earthy yeast. Nice body; could be thicker. Goes down like a dream - a treat for the senses. Well worth sampling if you come across it.
