I saw this in a very attractive can (artwork by North Arizona University) at the food court at Maswick lodge in the Grand Canyon and decided to take a chance. The plastic glassware was far from ideal but it poured into a pint glass with a huge head over a cloudy pale orange body; the head never completely dissipated beyond half a finger. Smell was very citrusy hoppy as was the taste with a nice bitter tinge. A very fortuitous choice of an American IPA.

Hazy, Fruity, Chewy, Malty

Touted as a "heavily dry-hopped IPA using Citra and Simcoe hop," Archive Ale pours a hazed amber with a massive creamy head that laces to the very end. Fruity and herbal, with soft zest in the nose, this IPA is smooth and slightly chewy. Malty sweet and bready up front with a caramelly toastiness. Fruity esters and hops meld with notes of apple and pine. Moderate bitterness with a coarse, leafy edge. Some juicy citrus too, but just some. Things dry up in the finish leaving lingering herbal notes. Not too shabby, but I expected more from the heavy dry hopping.

As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #114 (July 2016).

Back in the day in Washington Heights and Harlem, drugdealers would shout "Got that haze!" to passersby. Now I feel like breweries should be doing it. Mother Road should be saying "Got that haze!" (in my IPA).

Yup, hazy IPA.

I was expecting a fruit juice bomb but this was pretty mellow. Aroma was floral and a touch zesty and a touch juicy with citrus.

Taste followed suit, but also showed some biscuity, light malt profile. I enjoyed the flavor and the nose but kinda felt like begging for more. Didn't have the tropical or the citrusy flavors or even the funk that some of the hops generally found with the hazy IPA impart.

Drank nicely though. Easy-sipper despite the 7.3 ABV and it had a good pulpy quality to it almost.

I had two ten ounce pours, so it was enjoyable. They were selling packs of cans of this beer, each with individual artwork, but I couldn't spring at the $21 pricetag.
