The appearance is of slightly goldened water, with some foam on it. The smell is quite skunky; it reminded of some sour cabbage.
The taste is grainy, with light hints of caramel. Refreshing notes of citrus and sweet apple juice. Maybe some peaches too.The mouthfeel is weak, and slightly floury.

Whoa this is an intense Happoshu! Brewed "exclusively for Hokkaido" by Sapporo, this is Sapporo's latest, along with Sapporo Classic, made only for the great north island of Japan.
The can's got a huge "north star", the symbol of Sapporo, on it, which sucks you into it. No, really this beer doesn't look so hot, but who's complaining because it only cost 110 yen--what a deal! A steal really! (Bitter non-hop related sarcasm).
This "beer" is actually quite interesting. The smell has something roasted to it, which comes out fully in the taste--which is amazingly unique and quite good. I think they're going for a toasted corn flavor (a regional specialty of Hokkaido)--but they're not advertising it. It's either roasted corn, or toasted cashews, I can't decide--but it's very interesting. It also tastes great in the mouth, some sharp bubbles with really a persistant roasted taste and that nasty Happoshu alcohol aftertaste that would certainly be missed if not present.
I don't know. I'm happy about this new Happoshu, which will certainly compete with the good old Namashibori. I feel a little guilty not giving this higher marks.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
