Lumpy beige head that is slow to descend. Leaves plenty of ring lace. The liquid is deep brown but light does pass. It appears clear, but it's hard to tell.

Mild aroma of floral hop and molasses-like malt. Not very powerful, though, but it is pleasant.

The flavor mimics the smell but with a little more power. Starting with the malt up front, this has some burnt elements but it isn't a strong enough to make this a stout. There's also an element of sweetness that is like molasses. The swallow is more bitter, perhaps from the burnt elements, but also from the hop. The body is average and the carbonation is slightly elevated.

Overall, there is plenty of changes in the flavor profile to keep my interest.

Bottled October 1, 2013. Poured into a pint glass. There is a thick one inch creamy tan head on this. The body is black. The lacing is nice and sticky.

The aroma intertwines licorice and grassy slightly dank hops. Very subtle aromas here, nothing overpowering. Based on the aroma I anticipate this will be on the sweeter side.

The taste starts out mildly sweet with soft chocolate notes that dissolve quickly into a bitter coffee finish. The hop flavor doesn't hold up as well as one might hope for the style. The middle seems a bit thin and watery for a beer this strong.

This is light in body for the ABV, there is a nice creaminess to this that is very pleasant.

This is middling. I enjoy the style so I enjoyed this beer. There are certain notes that keep it from being among the best I've had.
