i usually rail against american ambers and reds as being sweet and one dimensional, and although they call this one a copper ale, it really breaks new ground in the style for me. the difference here is almost entirely the sorachi ace hops, which are unmistakable in the nose, and downright flamboyant in the taste. lemony and oily and buttery, mixing absolutely perfect with the copper malts, a simple combination, but one i have not encountered before, and its total magic. notes of vanilla and lemon rind in this, elegantly large in the feel, and fluffy with robust carbonation. the sorachi ace hops love this malt base, that combination is so cool and new to me that i cant get over it. i drank my girlfriends whole beer and then had one of my own. not a style trve usually spends much time on, and maybe this isnt even all that good, but for what i like, this takes the style to the next level. i really really loved it and was so totally surprised by its hop palate. really well done, but i also feel like im going to love any beer with this hop, so maybe its just me...
