a blueberry saison here, new from these guys. its tasty and summery, but i had much higher hopes for it. its neither as fruity as i thought it would be, nor as interesting on the yeast front. i know they cant all be wood aged wild beers, but some more funk and tartness to this would add a missing layer of complexity from a yeast standpoint. the yeast in this one seems simple and clean, not even a little bit rustic, almost more belgian, fermented maybe too cool to really add much character, or maybe this is on purpose, but that would be to show off the blueberry, and there isnt a ton of that either. aside from a pretty pink color wash, its got just a bit of the berry sweetness and a little bit of the tang for the skins, not really juicy or natural, but also not sweet or fake, its just sort of muted in this beer where i think a stronger blueberry flavor along with more interesting yeast would make this more dynamic. that said, its probably one of the most approachable beers i have had in here in awhile, and might help them appeal to a wider audience than they are currently enjoyed by. good not great, but i have a high bar set for these guys...
