a collaboration with american solera. a golden sour ale, barrel aged or fermented or whatever, with second use cherries, presumably meaning the cherries have been used in another beer already. this method of reusing fruit has been very successfully employed by their neighbor down the road black project, and its cool to see this idea proliferating! i think though, unfortunately, that this beer was released too soon, and that its not drinking real great yet. it has that weird off flavor from brett that is too new, and the sourness seems forced to me, highly acidic and not as mature from the wood as i would have hoped. its weird, these guys have teamed up with other notable breweries for collaborations before, and i never think the beers are as good as trve beers by themselves. the cherries are subtle here, its acidic white wine, dirty brett, and a wheaty grain complexion that really stands out. its well carbonated but not very dry, and the wood doesnt influence this as much as it does in others of theirs. the cherries seem tart and faded, and the yeast profile just isnt all the way ready yet it seems. still, a tasty and interesting beer, i just think it will be a lot better after hanging out for a few months or longer. lets wait and see... if you have a bottle, i would be in no rush to drink it now...
