a sour brown ale, very oud bruin-esque from them, with some fruity vinegar sourness in the nose and a nice cocoa element in the malt, but still sort of saisony too, with some neat yeast esters in the nose, a classic mixed fermentation style that trve has essentially mastered at this point. huge rising tan head from the tap, airy and light looking against the darker brown base. it smells like dried cherries and red wine and raisins and dry baking cocoa, with a fairly prominent citric acidity to it. the malt base is both rich and earthy, and smells unique to me, even in the style. the flavor is great, some nuttiness in the grain and some real structure from it that seems immune to the acid. more red wine and wood up front, toffee and chocolate and vinegar on the back end, a walnut and port wine complex too. i wish it had a little more carbonation to keep it moving, but its an excellent beer overall. i like that the saison yeast comes through it as much as the wild aspect, it brings wonderful complexity to this. trve has fast become one of the best breweries in colorado if not the country...
