oh boy this one is good, went for the release and it was insane, but had it again this week and it was even more compelling, somehow a smoke element creeped in that wasnt there even a few weeks ago! rich and shiny black with a deep dark brown head and quite a lot of maple in nose and taste. its fermented down a lot too though, not overbearing on the sugar at the end, but still holding a ton of the syrup character, earthy and wooden and just liquid gold. the smoke that i tastes the second time is cool too, calling up more of the dark grains, coffee and tobacco elements to it and a good bitter roasted property that balances well against the maple. lots of maple though, 1.666 gallons per barrel, clever, and it influences the texture as much as the flavor, slow flowing like drying lava, rich and sweet but also hearty in a way that isnt sugary. this is so good my mom even liked it! smooth and sturdy feeling, but i like it being only 8% abv, not so boozy and intense to drink, and having two or three of these doesnt seem unreasonable. i am biased now, i love these guys through and through, but i reckon this beer is incredible, some of their best work to date on the clean side! dont miss it while its here!
