Can. White head. Golden color. Cloudy.

Tart and refreshing. Nice citrus and green apples. Saison spice notes. Kind of dry. Wheat/bread notes. Light bodied. Solid.

Terroir can be a tricky thing. When capturing a taste of a place, brewers leave it up to happenstance, allowing the natural occurring microbes there to govern taste, scent, texture and indigenous impressions. The TRVE team has a lot of trust in these little friends and those little friends reward them greatly.

Pouring a lemony golden hue and held in a yeasty haze. Tart citrus aromas govern the nose while notions of wafer, cider and white wine decorate the peripheries of scent. Tepid sweetness carries an essence of sourdough, sour lemon candies and a modest sweetness of agave as the beer's first impressions are shyly of malt.

What promises sourness early in taste translates to only a moderately sour middle palate. Green apple, lemon, lime and white grape bring a sharp fruitiness while the funk and fauna adds an earthen roundness in the form of dry burlap, weathered oak and overall cellar-like conditions. A spicy bitterness rises in the late palate with the character of lemongrass and hay.

Medium light and carrying a creamy arid nature, World's Blood bears a strong name but a mild mannered, nuanced set of complexities in taste and textures. Highly drinkable and quite refreshing, the sour ale develops into a medium short aftertaste with the bitterness of peppery hops and a mild oak driven astringency for a dry finish.

L: Pours a hazy lemon juice yellow with a medium white head that dissipates rather quickly with no lacing on the glass.

S: Brett is up front, white wine grape, some honeydew, pear, quite a bit of sour tartness, a bit of green apple. Quite complex and unique.

T: Brett up front, with notes of lemon, pear, white wine grape and bit of apple, sour and acid but also fairly dry, a slight bit of bitterness. Quite different, but still tasty.

F: Medium to lighter body, slightly slick carbonation.

O: This beer is unique and different but quite tasty.

16 oz can

Pours light pear golden, white ring for a head.

Smells of light citrus and green apple over cracker.

Flavor is of lemon drop, tart with a hint bread and cracker.

Light body, tingly carbonation on the tongue.

Pretty nice light tart ale that drinks very easy and is refreshing. Worth trying.

Had on tap. Surprisingly acidic in the feel, with lush and smooth layering. Taste features sour and tart apple, grape, pear, lemon, a hint of cranberry, and a backing of white wine. Smells the same as taste but with more brett in the finish. Dissapointed in both beer I have had from TRVE so far, clearly well made and intentional, but somewhat soulless

i am a trve loyalist, but i didnt love this one. i think i need to try it in a can, the champagne refermentation probably isnt as compelling on draft, it rarely is, and thats how i had this one, so it lacked the life and refinement i was after. hopefully i can find a can soon to compare, but on tap, this is one of their less impressive ones in awhile, despite the cool process of fermenting it in the foeder with the spontaneous elements. its clearish, deep golden in color, and without much head after the initial pour, a little undercharged when i drink it too. aroma of white wine, bretty funk, and tired oak, with subtle red apple and pear esters giving it a fall vibe, sour more than funky as well. lots of fruitiness to this, but it lacks the fermentation profile complexity that i have gotten used to from these guys, and that i expected to be even more interesting in this one with the champagne yeast, but it really isnt there, at least on tap. the acidity is pretty high, but the flavor isnt particularly interesting, the spontaneous part of it seems like it needed more time to really do its thing. ill score a can soon and see what the deal is there. for now, not my favorite of their recent offerings.

edit: finally got a can, over a year later, this cant be the same batch right? it must have been brewed again, but its excellent this time, way more developed on the funk side, really interesting orchard fruit character, must, and wild farmy aspects. also carbonated way better and more refined and distinctive overall. i have to raise some scores since the can was so much better than the draft, truly wild and unique, i knew this would be better in this format. lovely and drinkable funky brew!
