a delicious strong stout on tap at vine street for stout month. this must be relatively new, i have not seen it before now. its shiny black with a deep mocha colored head and quite a lot of it, really lively and frothy for what it is, a pretty beer for a chilly winter day. the nose on this is cool, real heavy roast to the barley, just short of burnt but like an earthy high carbon thing with some deep coffee character to it, less of the obvious middle malt sweetness so many at this size usually have. the yeast seems almost english, there is definitely a flavor element to it along with it effective fermentation work, this is surprisingly dry as i drink on it, and the breadiness of the yeast adds a softness to what might otherwise feel like a pretty rigid brew in terms of texture and balance. dark chocolate, light rum or something boozy with a little spice to it, trace molasses and dry cocoa and smoke, smooth to drink on with just a bit of alcohol heat coming through. a nice morning sipper, and further proof that trve really can do it all. exceptionally well made and distinctive stout!
