a gorgeous mixed fermentation but brett dominated dry hopped ipa here done in collaboration with rare barrel. thanks to my friend for hauling one from denver to idaho for me, i miss these guys more than anything else in the beer scene there, hands down. this is different than the old shadows and light, make no mistake. equinox and mosaic hops in this, really lively and funky and juicy and good, no surprise with these two teaming up. the can pour is insanely active and heady, even frothing some, the first glass is hard to even settle down, airy white bubbles just keep pushing up, major brett activity happening in the can here for sure. once we get it in the glasses, its an incredible experience, not sour at all despite what i expected with the rare barrel involved, and despite the can designating it as a sour ipa, its all brett to me, high funk and farminess, reminds me of beers ive had from de la senne, a very high compliment, and that type of brett, more wild than cultured, and just extremely expressive in here. it loved the new school hops too, pineapple and kiwi and coconut to this, all super fresh and so unique with the musty funk, very little acidity at all here, and no real hop bitterness either. slightly earthy grain base, a little raw to me, wheat mostly, some pils maybe, simple and clean enough. dry to finish, some mouthwatering hops coming back at the end, good carbonation, i liked everything about this one except that i only had one can. another killer beer from trve in this style, i need a steady supply!
