a tasty summery witbier here, done with baere across the street, is this the first time they have collaborated? its about time! this is less funky than anticipated but seems to have a little more going on in the ferment than just a belgian wit yeast, lightly funky but still clean in the finish, more familiar clove and banana notes dominate, but i like the nuance right away, especially in the nose. i get obvious citrus here, sweet orange, and a little more sweetness from the wheat malt base than is common, it flashes honey to me, but its all dry by the finish. coriander is subtle, but works well with the yeast, and this has more of a general spiciness and slightly toasted earthiness from it than anything overly fragrant or pungent, its an accent. also maybe a little fuller bodied than some, but i like the texture still and the carbonation is there. i was hoping for something a little more ambitious from these two, both amazing on their own, but this feels a little safe all things considered. that said, ill never complain about a well made wit in high summer, and thats precisely what this is. i hope they collaborate again soon!
