Jaffa Orange-inspired stout brewed for GABS festival in Melbourne, May 2014. Tried there on tap.
Pours a black colour, with glints of pale brownish-red around the edges. Tan head, creamy and thick and beautiful. Looks a cracker.
Smells stouty rather than orangey or chocolatey. Spicy espresso notes on there with coriander and black pepper all underlain by a deep roasted grain character. Bit dry spicy and strong, could definitely use more orange.
Taste is also fairly stouty, roasty without a whole lot of orange character. Again spicy espresso comes to the fore, with notes of cocoa nibs and bitter roastiness. Fair roasty, and spicy character but tastes a little empty in the middle. Again, just needs more orange.
Body is slightly thin, touch of alcohol showing through. Not bad though.
Nice stout, but from what I was expecting I expected more orange. Also feel like the addition of some stronger orange tang would make this beer absolutely sing.
