I am saddened to be drinking this one at this time for The CANQuest (tm). I had a mishap last night as was was feeling groggy after work & managed to knock it from its perch, piercing its hull ever so slightly, but enough to cause it to leak! I threw it into the reefer to chill it for this emergency review!
8=(
From the CAN: "The Plague Doctor Double India Pale Ale".
There was no time to waste on niceties and so I set up over the sink to prepare for CANy messes or spills that may ocCANur. Fortunately, the breach was nearly opposite the vent, so Crack!ing it open was going to be like a mini-shotgun! 8=O Sure enough, as soon as the tongue entered the CAN, the beer beCAN to flow unCANtrollably! Minimal head formed & dissipated due to its mishandling by yours truly. Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose smelled of pineapples & caramel malt, very much a liquified pineapple upside-down cake!! Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, a tad thin for the style, but had my causing it to lose much of its CO2 been a factor? Hmm. The taste remained very much akin to a pineapple upside-down cake. I saw where other reviewers disliked this beer because of these flavors, characterizing them as "off", but I have experienced them before, intentionally, and I am willing to extend the benfit of the doubt. Finish was semi-sweet with the malt being a tad more aggessive than I would have liked. I apologize for all of this. Such was NOT my intention! YMMV.

This is weird. Very alcoholically and tart which shouldn't taste good but it does!

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Slightly hazed golden pour with thick foamy head. Great lacing.
S: Fruity hops and heavy grains. Tropical.
T/F: Surprisingly strong toasted malt flavor... odd hop profile. Melon forward... lighter citrus and tropicals, but I'm mostly picking up melon and maybe guava. Sweet fruit followed by modest bitterness. Medium to light bodied... sticky on the tongue.
O: An odd DIPA. Flavorful, but a little 'off' and again... I picked up a lot of melon for some reason. One I'd have again but can't strongly recommend.

Picked this up in the New Arrivals section at my beer shop. First beer I've had from Relic, and sadly not a good first impression. Something is definitely off, tastes of green apples/solvent, and finishes with a musty, stale hop flavor. I thought it might just be something wrong with the first can I opened, but the second was exactly the same. Definitely will be hesitant to try any of their other beers after this.

12oz can. Pours a hazy brownish orange color with over an inch of head. Lots of lacing. The aroma is pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit and bready malts. The taste is the pineapple, grapefruit and tangerine but also some spicy hop notes this time. Malts towards the end with some bread crusts. Citrus peel finish. Oily mouthfeel with lots of carbonation. Solid Imperial IPA.
