This is one of the better beers I’ve tasted with Nelson Sauvin. Perhaps the best.
The beer’s taste profile deepens with warming.
Light pineapple color with a 4F head. Excellent head retention.
Aroma: piney, fruity.
MF resinous and smooth.
Taste: pine, fruit, with a special NS character which can be winey, some say Sauvignon blanc.
Moderately hoppy finish.
Overall: excellent brewery which continues to brew beers in a singular style.

Poured from a pint can into an IPA style glass. Thick white head with plenty of lacing as it is consumed. The body of the beer is a semi-opaque apricot color. Delicious fruity aroma is quite enticing. The first sip tastes of grapefruit, tangerine and apricot, with the Nelson Sauvin from NZ kicking in some bitterness for a clean finish. Relic makes great DIPA, and this is one of them!

This beer is a thick hazy double IPA that is surprisingly refreshing considering the 8.5% ABV. The beer looks great with some nice lacing, & is creamy with some floral flavors. Smells pleasing, & the taste is slightly sweet on the front end followed by an almost chalky bitterness. A pineapple, mango, & banana smoothie comes to mind. The prolific Relic has certainly refined their hand in all these brews. Some good carbonation. The thick haze is expected of a beer brewed with lactose, but I am not overpowered by a milk dream. It comes in a tallboy can, so pours a full pint plus some. You will definitely get a good buzz after a couple of these. A fine beer for sure!

Been enjoying some of the recent rash of Relic IPAs lately, so figured I'd give this one a shot. I love Nelson hops but typically feel that they are not utilized to their full potential in many examples, and I am usually not a big fan of lactose in IPAs (especially bigger ones), as it tends to change the mouthfeel of these beers for the worse. I'm hoping Relic can marry the uniqueness of Nelson Sauvin with the drinkability-altering aspect of lactose. Am I hoping for too much here? Only one way to find out!
Pours a dense, cloudy light-amber beer with orange tones if held up to light. Lots of lace here, appearing after the thick dollop of meringue-like head fades down to a few fingers in my glass. Solid legs, for sure, as well. Kind of a typical Relic NEIPA appearance here, but nothing is really wrong with that.
The nose is super catty and grassy with strong white wine suggestions as well as the ever-present "gooseberry" note that fresh Nelson beers can give off. Smells great, in other words! This seems like a very solid treatment of the varietal, so I'm very interested to see if lactose ruins it. No, seriously. Lactose is not usually a good ingredient in IPAs these days... oats make things smooth as it is, and I've had so many solid-smelling IPAs that just tanked when they hit my palate. Anyway, I love the smell of this one. It's dank and slightly tropical with some light green onion as well... excellent!
On the tongue, this does a dance between having the intense resinous and dank notes of Nelson combined with light fruit-salad-like elements and a milky-smoothness. Luckily, the lactose is less intrusive than most other beers in this style. It doesn't seem to totally flatten out the mid-palate, for example. Instead, it gives some brief respite toward the finish, making the experience a little bit more cohesive. Not that I really even want respite from this intense, hop-loaded beer, but I guess it does make it drink almost a full percent under the stated 8.5% ABV, which is cool. Strong guava and mango with more chive/green onion, grassy resinous notes, earthy funk undertones and a finish that tastes just magnificently wine-like. Super lively body with a dialed-in lactose presence. I'm very impressed with this one. Though Relic has definitely had their ups-and-downs lately, they seem to be slowly getting back to a place of supreme consistency and high quality. I can drink to that!
