I didn't get to have the first batch of this which debuted last August or so, but I am super excited to welcome Relic back to MA after a few months of more limited distribution! These guys were unsung heroes of affordable and enjoyable NEIPAs for a while (mostly 2018/2019), and, even though they sometimes felt a bit under-par, no one could really deny the competitive pricing of even their less-good IPAs. I mean, this is $14 for a four-pack of 16 oz cans of a freaking triple IPA clocking in at 10% ABV. That's intense. And Denali hops (which they previously focused on in their IPA D is for Denali)? Alright guys, let's see what's going on.
The pour here is gorgeous; super active and sudsy with a big head formation that settles down to a half-finger of crooked yet stable foam atop a dense, orange-looking beer. Good legs and moderate-to-good lacing here, solid surface coverage as well if that's your type of thing. For a hazy IPA in 2020 to be impressive, it really has to get a lot right due to the overabundance of style pieces, but this one definitely delivers. It looks simultaneously intimidating and inviting, and the lacing even gets better upon subsequent small pours.
The nose is bursting with super fresh overtones of lychee, papaya, and tangerine, backended by peppery spice, a touch of ethanol heat, and even a little earthy chive. Wow, lots going on here... very involved stuff. I really enjoy the way it dips into tropical fruit without going all the way. Rind-like citrus and the earthy herbal and spicy undertones really give this another level of detail. Candied orange and ripe mango appear after the liquid has spent a little time in my glass.
Wow, this is juicy and intense. It's like biting into a fresh mango with some papaya and passion fruit aspects going on as well. Musky tropical elements combine well with the slight spice I noticed on the nose. A lot going on here, and the 10% ABV certainly works to carry these complex flavors to their logical endpoints. Slightly sweet with some tangelo and moderately-sugary notes in the mid-palate, especially as the beer warms a bit. Heavy body with a dense hop approach that lingers a bit on the palate before dissipating after 5-10 seconds. Glad I got another can, because who knows when we'll see this (or any Relic) in MA again... hopefully soon, but you never know!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
